The Infant/Toddler Specialist position will be field-based, serving child care programs in both center-based and home-based settings in the Lowcountry Region of South Carolina.
It is a temporary, full-time grant position with benefits as part of the SC Program for Infant/Toddler Care (SCPITC) hosted at the University of South Carolina College of Education.
The position entails providing strengths-based coaching and intensive professional development to child care providers in the assigned region to promote relationship-based care in early care and education settings.
Successful candidate will have strong interpersonal communication skills, experience preparing and delivering training to varied and diverse audiences using adult learning strategies, direct service experience in early care and education settings, and experience supporting others' capacity for self-reflection.
Candidate must be able to work independently but also function as part of a team.
Frequent regional, in-state travel.
Candidate must have valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Candidate must live in or move to one of the following SC counties by the start date:
Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Berkeley , Beaufort, Charleston , Colleton, Dorchester , Hampton, Jasper, or Orangeburg.
Job responsibilities include:
Using SCPITC's strengths-based service model, and in coordination with participating early care and education programs in assigned service area, create individualized service plans including manualized training and intensive coaching that promote SCPITC's relationship-based approach to infant care.
Engage in ongoing reflection and planning to improve services delivered to child care programs and teachers with a high degree of autonomy.
Develop and implement coaching and technical assistance supports for ECE program directors in implementing relationship-based policies and practices.
Interpret state quality rating improvement system (QRIS) program standards and educate directors on implementing QRIS program standards at child care programs in assigned service area.
Engage in outreach activities including community trainings, conference presentations, deliver Breastfeeding Friendly Child Care trainings and related technical assistance to programs pursuing the Breastfeeding Friendly Child Care Designation, and site visits.
Represent SCPITC in the community and partner with regional child care agencies to maintain communication, give and accept referrals.
Interpret and explain functions of SCPITC to the general public, agency partners, early care and education professionals, and families.
Contribute to monthly team reflection meetings to inform ongoing program improvement and refinement.
Generate technical solutions and/or suggest programmatic adaptations to address observed challenges that hinder child care providers' and directors' implementation of relationship-based practices or participation in the SCPITC program.
Maintain a solution-oriented stance to strengthen program growth and impact.
Maintain documentation of field-based work.
Maintain database records and report progress, track service delivery.
Maintaining a reflective stance is a critical skill for this position.
Successful candidates will be self-reflective and skilled in supporting others to self-reflect.
Preferred candidates will have experience receiving or leading Reflective Supervision/Consultation.
